365 Days of Thanksliving — Day 259

I can’t remember the last time I intentionally laid down to take a nap. But that changed today. Honestly, while I don’t know how much I slept, the rest felt wonderful.
I didn’t make a grand announcement; I just quietly whispered to my wife that I was take a quick snooze. That quick snooze saw the little arm on the lock spin around 2½ times. And the pups? They joined their pa and snuggled right alongside.
I’ve always admired those who could catch a few zzz’s every day. My dear old dad is one of those; he’s perfected the art of closing his eyes and resting his mind. Like clockwork, 20 minutes later, he naturally awakes.
My wife’s perfected the art too; I call it “taking a ‘lenee.” Just like her mother, Ilene — God rest her souls — most nights just before bedtime, Danielle closes her eyes and takes a pre-bedtime snooze. Bless her heart, sometimes she snores so load she drowns out everything else.
Funny side point, have you ever snored so loudly that you wake yourself up? I’ve done that a bunch of times. I always shake my head and laugh it off. Gosh, I must’ve been sleeping hard, I think to myself. My wife knows how to keep a strait face.
Naps in the Navy were always discouraged. But the good ones always found a way to catch a few zzz’s here and there. Shout out to my buddy Billy (who often reads these blogs). He could sleep anywhere… and I mean anywhere. Billy and I will keep those stories close to our hearts. Then there was our supervisor, Charles. Just like my pops, he’d take a quick snooze every day after lunch.
Me, I could never quite master the art. I try but just can’t seem to sit quietly enough in any chair and doze off. If I want to rest my eyes and mind, I literally gotta go horizontal. And then, hours not minutes tend to pass, and I feel like I’ve wasted the day.Today though, that nap felt good, and for that I thank the Lord.
That’s it for today folks. Think I’m just gonna keep this one short. Anywho… what are you thankful for today? Share your stories below.
