365 Days of Thanksliving — Day 274

When you become an old fart (like me), it’s pretty much a given that you’re gonna have to get up at least once in the middle of the night. Nature calls, right? I mean, that is, unless you’ve haven’t eaten or drank anything at least four hours before hitting the hay.
Me? My body usually awakens me around 3:30 every night, almost like clockwork. Sometimes, when I’ve been especially naughty and snacked too much, eaten supper way too late, and/or just kept sipping on a beverage until light’s out, then my body says “wakee-wakee” more than once (which is just plain annoying and disrupts a great night’s sleep). Heaven forbid it’s a combo of those things. Then forget it! (Being overweight doesn’t help either. That’s my own fault).
But last night? The stars must’ve aligned or something. Because, my goodness, I slept the whole night through without interruption. Honestly, it was such a welcomed anomaly. I mean, no zombie shuffling to the bathroom; no stubbing the toes; no feeling around for the walls and dressers in the dark; no fighting the dogs to regain my spot. Just ZZZZZZZ… until my body naturally awoke to the morning light. Ahhh…. It was glorious.
Now, I get it, I’ve written about rest a bunch of times, but this was different. I honestly can’t remember the last time I slept the whole night through without interruption. Truly! And as silly as this all sounds, today I’m totally grateful for that uninterrupted sleep.
Here’s the result. I’ve been so productive today and had a bit more pep in my step. I’ve gotten more done than I normally would on a Monday, with more time to spare. I credit that to a great night sleep, and the week of rest last week as well.
So, there’s that! The week is off to a great start. What are you thankful for today?
