THOSE BEAUTIFUL BLUE HUES

365 Days of Thanksliving — Day 289

Top of the Tuesday to ya, blog fans! Well, I guess it’s not the top of the day anymore; more like the bottom portion, isn’t it? Well, whatever.

I know I’ve blathered about this before, but sometimes my daily idea gobsmacks me right in the face. Other days, I gotta soak my head in a bucket of ice water so my blood vessels constrict and the slurpee-freeze tumor reveals something otherworldly. But this morning? Idea No. 1 hit my eyeballs early on.

Yup. Idea No. 1. I actually had another good one later, but maybe I’ll save that for tomorrow… E-I-E-I-O. Hahaha!

Anywho, I’d just finished feeding Gus Gus and Arlo and was washing out their bowls when I looked up. And wham! Just then, the most beautiful blue hues with incredible backlighting beamed right into my peepers through the kitchen window. The view before me was so picturesque—well, minus the ugly shrubs out back… and the telephone poles, and the alleyway, and the other blech-y stuff. But that sky? OH MY GOODNESS, it was something special.

As silly as it might sound, those beautiful azure hues with the iridescent backlighting absolutely made my day, and from there on out, things just got better. At chapel, my aging audience sat right up at attention and sang their hearts out, kinda like it was their last service ever. (Let’s hope not.)

Then, on the drive home, the sky just kept shifting. To the east, these funky, cool clouds. To the south, nothing but clear skies. To the west, wispy clouds here and there—all changing the composition over the varying landscapes below.

A long, long time ago, in a far-away land, God gave the prophet Ezekiel a vision of heaven, specifically God’s throne room. Ezekiel described the scene poetically:

“A voice came from above the expanse over their heads; when they stopped, they lowered their wings. Something like a throne with the appearance of lapis lazuli was above the expanse over their heads. On the throne, high above, was someone who looked like a human” — Ezekiel 1:25–26, CSB

Ezekiel describes the sky like lapis lazuli, a stone that’s just remarkable: beautiful deep hues of blue, with streams of white flowing through and specks of gold. Just wow. Now, I certainly didn’t have a heavenly vision like that. But that glimpse this morning? It was like heaven—at least a foretaste, anyway. And for those beautiful blue hues, alls I could do was thank and praise the Lord.

Thank you, God, for the eye candy this morning. It set the tone of my day perfectly.
