THE SERENE SATURDAY

365 Days of Thanksliving — Day 279

Saturdays in the BonnBunch house are usually reserved for running errands, especially to buy puppy-supper supplies. But this week gave us an unexpected twist. We learned that the quarter beef we requested is heading to the butcher, which means a soon-to-be-filled freezer. Only problem is, we still have some beef supply from last year (and as we learned, from 18-24 months ago).

Whelp, seeing what we had in there were some pickings we’d passed over (just not our favorite cuts), we decided to spoil the doggos a bit—sirloin, round roasts, etc., about 12 lbs. worth. That’s just about the amount we buy weekly to feed our boys. And yes, I know, they’re awwwwwfully spoiled. They are my bookie boys, after all.

Anywho, not having to run opened the door for a serene Saturday. Me personally? I awoke naturally, well kinda; the doggos were engaged in a very loud game of gotcha downstairs. Then, when I did saunter to the first level, my wife was talking with our daughter, the one half a world away. Before we knew it, almost 2 hours had passed. It was so fun to hear all the hubbub and drama out of Paju, S. Korea.

We ate an early brunch, cleaned up, did a few chores, then just chilled. On the tube, we noticed the Huskers were engaged in a game of pigskin against I don’t remember who. Nebraska won… GO Big Red! And just as the two-minute drill hit, I noticed the Bearcats were scheduled to be televised on Fox9 at 2:30. Well, can’t go anywhere now, we surmised.

The Bearcat game was boring and touch-and-go for a while, until a total trick play got the crowd going wild and opened up the game. Cats by 90, baby! (Not really, that’s just a UC saying.) Bearcats were victorious in the end.

Then, this former cookie whipped up some supper for the hoomans and doggos, let the pups out, and now we’re chilling on the couch. Supper was pasta and bolognese sauce, btw. Umm-umm good!

There’s something about enjoying a serene Saturday in September. No need to go anywhere. No rush to have to do anything. Just a day to chill and watch a few college games. Being Labor Day weekend, it’ll be nice to have another one of these on Monday. I don’t know what the day will bring, but I hope it’s as serene as today.

What are you thankful for today?
