365 Days of Thanksliving — Day 246



Two. Four. Six…. Yeah, there’s no eight in today’s post number, but I’m still appreciative of a whole lot today. How’s that for some top-tier snark to kick things off?

 

Since I can’t seem to muster up a grand story today—because, honestly, it’s just been a nice, perfectly mundane Monday—let’s do something a little different. Let’s play a game. We're going to list as many things as we can be thankful for, just for today alone. I’ll start. THEN, you continue on in the comments.

 

Who’s willing to play along? Let’s get to it: I’M THANKFUL FOR:


  1. Waking up in peace to the morning sun, fully rested and completely bypassing the need for an alarm. And alongside that....

  2. Arlo and Gus Gus flanking me in bed this morning. Morning boxer cuddles are absolutely undefeated.

  3. Clean, running water to wash up and brush my teeth, and for having simple luxuries like shampoo, body wash, and toothpaste. (Have you ever actually stopped to think of those things as luxuries? Because they truly are.)

  4. Three square meals the Lord provided today—my daily bread, if you will. That included donuts, cheese, meat sticks, some pizza, and slow-smoked BBQ pork burnt ends with sides. Num! Added to that, we have enough leftovers for a couple more meals. Wahoo. God is good!

  5. The wonderful space where I get to work: a magnificent church with a stunning sanctuary, and a pretty comfy office to boot.

  6. More than enough technology at work and home, and in my hands to do what I enjoy doing.

  7. A beautiful day outside: clear skies with a few puffy clouds. Not too hot, certainly not cold—just right (exactly how baby bear likes it).

  8. To Facetime with Hallie this afternoon. It’s so easy to take things like this for granted in our day and age. But think about it: being able to chat from over a thousand miles away, as though we’re sitting face-to-face in the same living room? Just fabulous.

  9. Entertainment. As I bang this post out, we have the Masters of the Universe movie on in the background. “He-Man” was such a silly childhood cartoon, but honestly, they did a great job with the flick. At its core, the plot is just about overcoming evil to save your family and friends, curiously with a Christological bent.

  10. A great conversation this morning with Max, and for realizing once again just how fortunate we are to live exactly where we do. Speaking of which…

  11. That God helped us make our home far away from the crazy. Now, it's not quite as far away from the crazy as what we experienced in Nebraska (literally being 50 miles from the geological center of the lower 48)—but still, Comfrey sure isn't Minneapolis or St. Paul. So for that, praise the Lord

  12. Our community. Comfrey, yes, but mostly the community of faith we’re honored to serve, and our incredible circle of friends.
