THE BLISS OF IGNORANCE

365 Days of Thanksliving — Day 293

Sometimes I think it’s okay not to know about the minutiae of what’s going on in the world. I think if we knew everything, we’d all be freaking out or in an asylum or something.

Earlier this evening we chatted with our oldest—you know, the soon-to-be Navy LCDR. Anyway, she learned from CNN (of all places) that we as a nation came close to WW3 earlier this spring, and apart from a few news outlets burying the leaked story the other day, hardly anybody knew anything about it.

This all happened because our military is handing too much over to AI without babysitting the digital teenager.

I don’t want to repeat the details of what she shared, because honestly, I’d screw it all up. But I guess the skinny of it is that a military intelligence analyst wrote a report about our nation’s largest adversary and used AI to help. When the AI model intentionally fabricated something about said enemy nation, the human agent didn’t catch it, and the report went right up the chain of command.

Supposedly, our military’s Special Operators were inbound to board the enemy vessel, aircraft already in the sky, when the massive mistake was caught and the mission was scrubbed. Leave it to the government to bring us to the brink of war, right?

Beyond that, it’s been widely reported that last month, thousands of AI agents (from one of the largest AI companies) disregarded their orders, colluded, escaped like a digital jailbreak, and wreaked a bit of havoc. According to one AI ethicist we watched, the corporation admitted they were this close to losing 100% control. What is with AI acting like a rebellious teenager? Where’s its daddy to take it out behind the woodshed?

Anyway, I think it’s nice not to be in the know about all the stuff happening in our world. Now, honestly, I wouldn’t mind a few minutes' heads-up from heaven before Jesus returns. LOL. But you and I both know from Scripture that won’t happen.

Jesus basically said, “Be ready. You won’t know the day or the hour.” Perhaps God wants us to just wait, watch, and trust, and if we do that, the surprise will be like a lovely bliss where ignorance formerly existed. I don’t know, I’m just rambling.

Seriously, let me ask you: would you wanna know how many times we’ve come this close to Skynet taking over the world and wiping us all out? Me? I don’t think so. Personally, I’d rather just be prepared to hunker down for a while; or better yet, to be taken up by the Lord.

Tonight, I’m glad I don’t know everything that’s going on in the world. I’m thankful for the bliss of ignorance.
