OH THE DRAMA!

365 Days of Thanksliving — Day 271

"Like sands through the hourglass, so are the days of our lives."

It was the winter of 1988. I lived with four other guys in a two-room suite in the oldest dorm at the University of North Dakota. When I wasn’t in class, flying airplanes, or working in the dining hall, I hung-out with the guys. And, as so non-dude sounding as it was, nothing seemed more important in those frigid days than daily watching “The Days of our Lives” at lunchtime.

Ya’d think we were bunch of housewives, but we were hooked. Everyday we’d tune in (while pouring one or two down) to the ongoing storyline. Nothing ever seemed to change, but the drama seemed to go on-and-on-and-on.

Ah, the good old days. And oh, the drama! Hahaha!

Whelp… today, on this day of introverting, I’ve done little-to-nothing but watch re-runs of my favorite space drama: Battlestar Galactica (the second rendition, that is). My wife left early this morning to go visit her dad. So, after a quick outing to Springfield, the boyos and I have done just chilled in front of the tube, watching Apollo and Starbuck and all the Cylon drama in one of the best primetime soaps ever made — IMHO, that is.

By nature, I’m an extreme extrovert, and ENFJ on the Myers-Briggs scale. But even us extroverts need some “me” time every once and a while. Today (and well, much of this week) offered the time for that very thing. And while my vacation isn’t quite done, I’m thankful for the time to recharge. It came at a perfect time too.

I was realizing that I was getting a bit testy and needed a break. I don’t know if it was showing at church, but I was feeling it inside. And while I married and absolute angel and woman of almost infinite grace (except with the doggos), I’m sure she was noticing my circuits were starting to short. Had I not taken a break, work and church might have turned into a soap opera itself. Oh, the drama.

So, to my friends and congregation at New Hope, I thank you for giving me time off this week to recharge. I’m glad I was able to watch some dramas today and not bring any drama to church.

Father God, thank you for the time this week to introvert and have some me time. Thank you for the times in the field with my camera. Thank you for the times of intimate prayer. Thank you for the times with my doggos; and thank you for the precious hours of spending time with my wife.
