365 Days of Thanksliving — Day 212

Whelp... all I can say is thank goodness for insurance! Let me 'splain it to ya, Lucy.
So, this afternoon, Danielle and I had our annual vision check-ups with the optometrist. It’s always good to get the peepers checked, especially as ya get up there in years like us. And, with a family history of glaucoma, it’s also wise to have the backs of our eyes inspected, just in case.
With our last exams almost a year ago, she scheduled our appointments for today, half an hour apart. But those weren’t until mid-afternoon. First things first: work. Hi-ho, hi-ho, it was off to work we... go'd. (Yeah, that doesn’t fit. Oh well.)
Our workdays passed quickly. As lunchtime rolled around, I shut down my computer, headed home, and met up with my bride just as she did the same. While she watered Gus Gus and Arlo, I prepped their dinner just in case the puppy sitter could stop by. We packed up a cooler—because why not knock out two birds with one stone at Sam's Club, ya know?—and away we went.
An hour later, we arrived in Katosota with two hours to kill. First up was a quick lunch at one of our favorite joints, then over to Sam's Club to grab the essentials. (You really don’t want to run out of TP, ya know? That’d be a dirty disaster. Hahaha!) Even though we still had a bit of time before our appointments, our family lives by the motto: "Early is on time, and on time is late." Besides, it gave us plenty of time to check out the merch and scope out the frames. I’m always looking for something a bit different—slightly obnoxious and fun.
We checked in, and Danielle went right on back. Me? I scoped out the frames with a gal who was younger than my youngest daughter. She was a huge help throughout our appointments. I told her, "Pretend you're one of my daughters and give me the down-and-dirty truth; don’t worry about hurting my feelings." And she did exactly that. Loved it!
Anywho... an hour or so later, after the doc put our eyes through the wringer, it was time for the tech to get us all fixed up. And Holy Moly Batman... the bill. Let's just put it this way: THANK GOODNESS for VSP insurance (and Danielle's HSA account).
I get it, the supply chain is bigly, and folks gotta get paid. But for what it cost to take care of our eyes for another year, we could've bought a nice zero-turn lawn mower. You do the math. Still, like I said, I’m incredibly thankful for the insurance our employers provide, and that health savings account from her former employer that we’re still slowly depleting. Almost there.
All in all, we walked out with four new pairs of glasses for our four peepers with zero real-time out-of-pocket cost. I think I can speak for both of us when I say we’re extremely grateful to have wonderful jobs, serving wonderful people and organizations who take care of us. If it weren’t for them, affording great eyewear and corrective lenses would be a serious challenge. But ya know, that’s 'Merica for ya, isn't it?
So... for all of you who’re taking care of the Bonn Bunch and helping us "look out" for y’all too—thank you. We thank God for you, and we’re mighty thankful insurance covered this four-eyed adventure.
What are you thankful for today?
