365 Days of Thanksliving — Day 301

I think the dreary-wearies infiltrated the church today—well, kinda sorta. Look at me, starting off on a real high note, aren’t I? Hahaha! I promise I'm not trying to be a Donnie Downer here. This one’s actually about analytics, and it has a great twist at the end, so bear with me.

While the main service was well-attended, our Revelation Bible study afterward was… well, a bit on the sparse side. Last week, it was a packed house. Today? More empty chairs than occupied ones. We'll just chalk it up to the weather. That being said, we still had a great study and managed to get through about half the material before the clock ran out.

Naturally, all those empty chairs got the ol' ticker thinking. I started wondering how the online version was holding up. To find out, all I had to do was peek at our YouTube analytics. I usually avoid this because, let’s be honest, if I keep my ego in check and ignore the numbers, I don't have to feel inferior or wonder what I did wrong when the view count is less than stellar.

Keep in mind, we aren’t exactly trying to go viral here. We’re a small church in a tiny town, and I have absolutely zero aspirations of becoming a celebrity YouTube pastor. Normally, a video hovers around 20 to 40 views after a couple of weeks. Nothing to write home about, but steady.

So, when I logged into the studio today and saw numbers drastically higher than usual, all I could do was say, “Thank you, God!” Apparently, the Book of Revelation piques (not peaks—look at me using proper grammar) people’s interest quite a bit more than your run-of-the-mill sermon video. And that’s a good thing, because it means folks are genuinely curious about the last days.

Last Wednesday, I dropped two videos almost back-to-back. The first was a 20-minute intro, and surprisingly, it’s racked up 170 views in just five days. The second one, a heftier 40-minute deep dive, still pulled in 62 views in the same timeframe. Not too shabby for a small church nobody’s heard of outside our little corner of the prairie.

All in all, I’m incredibly thankful for those views. It means people are watching—including, as I recently learned, some folks who don’t even hold to the Christian faith but are curious enough to see what God’s final Word has to say.

So, thank you God for every single person who showed up live last Sunday and today, and for everyone tuning in online. May Your Word go forth and not return void.

What are you thankful for today?

Oh, and P.S.—that elusive video I hinted at coming soon? You know, the second half of that two-parter? That just might be tomorrow’s post. We’ll see. Bye for now!
